About supperclub london

From the Amersdam squat scene to the glittering hights of the international club stage, Supperclub London has just celebrated its first anniversary.

The original supperclub was started by a group of young Amsterdam artists who squatted and created intense and unique art events over a number of days and nights in derelict warehouses in the late 1980s. Not having furniture, artistes took bedding with them and created and exchanged art and ideas over communally cooked dinners.

From these artistic roots came the idea of supperclub, a desire to offer an event or evening that stimulates all of the senses, whilst imbuing a sense of magic and creativity about it. So oversubscribed were the original group that Bert van der Leden decided to give everyone an opportunity to partake in the creativity and decadence of the space and opened it to the public in 1992.

Fast forward 19 years and having just celebrated its 1st Birthday, supperclub london continues to provoke and stimulate as one of the leading alternative evenings out in the capital. Whether it be its unusual eating style and food service, eccentric performances, monthly Saturday afternoon Brunch gatherings, ever-changing visual art and solid musical soundtrack with DJ’s that ease it into a more clubby setting a few hours later, supperclub london is something different to savour.

On entering supperclub, its sheer white Salle Neige space (the epicentre of supperclub) beckons with oversized beds upon where one reclines and dines after being introduced via the Bar Rouge, the upholstered take on a classic hotel bar, stocking some great cocktails including their own suppercane and French Kiss.  Working with contemporary, fresh and sometimes out there theatre, performers and hosts welcome supperclubbers in the Bar Rouge whilst the kitchen gets to work on its always surprising and fresh four-course tasting menu, which changes weekly.

Complete with a mezzanine area where diners have a bird’s eye view, this sheer white space also offers conventional table and chair dining.

Dutch born chef Bow Stoel’s menu is inspired by international supperclub locations, combining traditional and unusual flavours, and investing dishes with a memorable twist. Delicate yet confident, this is a veritable pandora’s box for your tastebuds.

Non-diners can also enjoy the Bar Rouge and become part of the night-time entertainment at supperclub when after dinner the furniture is re-arranged to create more space.  There is also the Bar Noir, a cosy space with its own entrance and an extensive champagne list, perfect for intimate gatherings and smaller private parties.

The club was a pionner of video projection and very aware that music with moving images makes a deeper impression than without. The musical director is Femi Fem, founder member of the Young Disciples, and lynchpin of the capital’s rare groove, funk and early urban scene.  Best known for the Disciples’ cult club anthem “Apparently Nothin” and the Mercury Nominated Album,  “Road To Freedom, Femi also ran the amazing Rotation party, which so impressed the supperclub owners on its Reunion event, they asked him to jump on board.

Music takes pride of place as an integral facet of the experience that completes the powerful trinity alongside performance and cuisine. The new era performances are varied, always provocative and unafraid to shock. Art Director, Giovanni Martins procures local and international talent, showcasing both recent discoveries and rising stars, including artists boasting impressive careers that span clubs and exhibitions at leading venues across the globe. Art exhibitions are staged regularly without fanfare, and supperclub’s creative quirkyness continues to run riot.

supperclub london has established itself as one of the capital’s more alternative dining and entertainment evenings out, and is frequented by the likes of Madonna (who has also hosted her own private family events here), Katy Perry, Kelly Brook, Jade Jagger, Matthew Williamson, Sacha Baron-Cohen, Cesc Fabregas, Oswald Boateng, Rhys Ifans, Jaime Winstone, Danny Cipriani, and Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker).

Event highlights include the supperclub’s first Live event - the Sugababes’ Exclusive Album showcase in 2010; the Buggles Live Show and Fundraiser, November October 2010;  the EMI post-Brits after party with Robbie Williams and fiancée Ayda Field, Lily Allen, Cat Deeley and James Corden among the guests and Simon Fuller’s 19 Christmas Party.
