RBKC commission for Portobello photographers

Atom Rooms Installation

Photographers have an opportunity for their work to be displayed on the Portobello Road North Wall if they win a commission from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday 15 June.

The Council, as part of the Nour Festival, is seeking to commission a work of photography celebrating contemporary Middle Eastern and North African arts and culture in the Golborne area. Portobello Road North Wall runs between two of the most vibrant market areas in London: Portobello Road Market and the less well-known but rapidly up-and-coming Golborne Road Market.

The public art installation, the sixth to be commissioned by the Council, will be 100 metres in length and installed for approximately six months from October 2012.

The challenge for the photographer is to produce a striking, beautiful and site-specific work of art with content that relates to the local area and is relevant and meaningful to a local audience.

Councillor Nick Paget-Brown, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "This is the sixth commission for the Portobello Road North Wall and I am delighted that it will showcase Middle Eastern and North African culture.

"The series of installations continues to go from strength to strength. The richness of contemporary Middle Eastern and North African arts and culture in the Golborne area make it an obvious focus for this new commission."
