Now in its 18th edition, this local institution is with us again – a guaranteed free feast of independent film until the 14th of September.
Did you know that the Portobello Film Festival is the Uk's biggest independent film competition? In proper punk/DIY style, the festival started in 1996 as a reaction to the moribund state of the British film industry. Since then it has provided a forum for new filmmakers and has screened hundreds of films.
The festival has been named 'the wild side of Brit Film' (Metro), 'this pioneering film festival' (Evening Standard), 'the biggest celebration of independent film in Europe' (The Independent) and 'London's biggest filmic free-for-all' (Time Out).
As in other editions, this year’s festival has many international entries. There are specific evenings for films from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, America, Romania, Belgium, Ukraine and beyond. Also evenings devoted to Documentary, Drama, Comedy, Horror, Love, Animation, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Art and Culture, as well as London, music and yes… more…
