 That was a fantastic first hand account of the trouble we have experienced this week. You really bought it to life and I whole heartedly agree with your points in comparing the looters with the bankers and with your points regarding potential solutions. It's clear that there is a vein of greed that runs through our society in England. Greed from the bankers who feel that they can gamble our nations future for their personal benefit. Greed from our MPs where they have quite openly defrauded the tax payers for their personal benefit. And finally greed in the forgotten class who took the opportunity to benefit from the system by looting a pair of trainers or flat screen TV; which the media and their accessible role models (like footballers or WAGs) so openly promote as a definition of status. So what's an appropriate long term solution to this problem? We have of a clearly disenfranchised and excommunicated working class youth. Think long term, is it revenge? Or reform?

James, it's very well-written piece giving a real sense of what it must have been like out on the streets that evening. However, I'm not sure that you can meaningfully compare this type of looting with the bankers' actions. I'm also unsure about "communicating with these troubled youth" because I think they're more likely violent hooligans who deserve punishment (and not sympathy).
