Howlround
First coming to prominence with hugely-acclaimed 2012 LP The Ghosts Of Bush, Howlround have now expanded to a sextet (four machines, two people) and create recordings and performances entirely from manipulating natural acoustic sounds on vintage reel-to-reel tape machines, with additional reverb or electronic effects strictly forbidden.
In an age where one can create all manner of electronic music with a simple swipe of a mouse, Howlround prove not only how much fun is to be had in making things complicated again, but conversely just how little effort is sometimes needed to create a genuinely uncanny and beguiling soundworld: the rough underbelly of our pristine, Pro-Tools universe.
A new album ‘Tales From The Black Tangle’ is out now.

Cathianne Hall
Cathianne’s passion as a writer is for researching hidden history and forgotten folklore to create modern fables that are relevant to today’s audience. She aims to tell stories that resonate across the years about ordinary but ultimately extraordinary people.
Her most recent theatre piece involved creating a chilling Halloween Urban Myth for the West Yorkshire town of Heckmondwike. She has also storylined over 3000 episodes of popular TV (Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and CBBC).
She writes for theatre, TV, film and also in prose. For ‘The Road to Mount Helicon’ she will be reading ‘Shadow Shift’ a new short story.

Murray is known for his solo works, remixes and handmade Slowcraft Records releases which include collaborations with Anne Garner and the critically acclaimed biographical Floods trilogy.

The Muse at 269 was established to support arts in the community and narrow the divide between university and the professional world. We are essentially a combination of commercial and creative environments in an arranged marriage designed to alleviate the constraints faced by emerging artists. As with all arranged marriages there is a period of unpredictable acquainting we are pleased is behind us with amicable resolve. With divorce dismissed, although children have yet to be mentioned, we are proud to be in our sixth year of service in 2009.

With a successful balance of commercial (restaurant/bar) and creative (gallery/studio) achieved, mutual consistency between those aspects has supplied artists, customers and clients with a unique service and theatrical environment in which to enjoy it. Throughout 2008-09 drawing room events has provided excellent food and beverage to enhance the gallery environment and visiting artists and residents have benefited from our limited commission policy generating up to 85% of sales without exception. We hope to continue improving that figure and continue creating real opportunity for immerging Artists committed to continuing their work as professionals.

We look forward to many more years working along side the ‘Drawing room’ at No. 269 on Portobello Road and expect to see you in the near future to sample their delectable menu in our magical gallery.
