Rock Family Trees Art Exhibition

The Elgin Celebrates rock and roll this winter with a special exhibition featuring Pete Frame and Peter Anderson.

The Elgin Food Pub and Live Music Venue in Ladbroke Grove is hosting a special exhibition featuring rock’s most cherished and revered illustrator Pete Frame’s Rock Family Trees and the rock photography of Peter Anderson. Held in association with Family of Rock, the exhibition will run from Saturday 13th November 2010 till Thursday 18th November and will feature the renowned Family Trees that outline the history of bands such as The Velvet
Underground, The Kinks, The Stones and Roxy.

No stranger to rock music itself, The Elgin is the first Geronimo Inns pub to incorporate a stage and hosts regular live music. Exclusive sets by artists Will Nott, Marianne Hyatt, John Moore and Grace Banks, will take place in the main downstairs area on Saturday 13th November, allowing guests to enjoy both rock art and music in the same evening.

Limited edition pieces will be on sale and will make the perfect Christmas gift for rock connoisseurs. Posters will be sold at £15. Prices for photographs and signed Rock Family Tree fine art prints, start from £250.

Pete Frame

Described by Rolling Stone Magazine as ‘the only true pop lunatic to have kept his sanity and his sense of humour’, Pete Frame’s Rock Family Trees originally appeared in 1969 in Britain’s first rock magazine, Zigzag, before being featured extensively in titles such as NME and Sounds as well as on countless album sleeves and CD inserts.

Such was the popularity and critical acclaim of Frame’s artwork, that the BBC created a two part series by the same name, ‘Rock Family Trees’, in addition to broadcasting further programmes based on his Monty Python genealogy and his Manchester United family trees.

To date, several volumes of his collected works have been published, and have been described by The Independent as being ‘a class act, a loving archival trawl through rock’s minutiae at once absurdly detailed and fantastically well observed.’

Peter Anderson

A graduate from the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London, Peter Anderson started his career as a photographer for NME in the 1980s, and has since worked for publications including The Face, iD and Rolling Stone.

In addition to exhibiting his work at The Chamber of Pop Culture, the Greenwich Picturehouse and Bonhams, Anderson’s previous exhibitions include ‘Rock Star Portraits’ (Fukuoka, Japan) and ‘No Inhibitions’ (Lyon & Turnbull).
