News and Events April - July 2013

February saw the opening of our new series of events called Inside Design - GWS has invited leading designers, companies and brands to share their creative journey in a business to business, creative to creative environment.

Inside Design kicked off with Bill Amberg and was a huge success, we are now really looking forward to the next five. The next Inside Design with Bethan Gray runs from Fri 26th April - Thurs 9th May and will explore the designer's emphasis on understated luxury and longevity, highlighting the importance of high quality material and craftsmanship in her practice. more+

Make a Silver Ring with Melissa Hunt
One day Jewellery making workshop 
Mon 8th April 2013 10am - 5pm £89 - exclusive taster price
This one-day taster workshop, held in the project space at Great Western Studios and run by resident contemporary jeweller Melissa Hunt. She will explore a range of techniques suitable for applying textures and finishes to metal. more+

People and Still Lives by Jane Cochrane
Come to the Private View Thurs 11th Apr 6pm - 9pm
Exhibition runs Fri 12th - Fri 19th Apr
 
Jane Cochrane paints from life, both in watercolour and in oils. In this solo exhibition, she will be showing various still lives and portraits painted here in England. more+

Inside Design with Bethan Gray
Exhibition runs Fri 26th - Thurs 9th May
Bethan Gray Talk Wed 1st May 7pm - 8pm
Alongside well-known pieces such as the Brogue Table, nominated in 2012 for the Elle Decoration Awards, Gray will showcase previously unseen pieces. Currently being developed with a world-renowned stone specialist, a first-time range of home accessories made of stone will be debuted. more+

Exhibition runs Wed 15th - Wed 22nd May
 Elena Tsoka explores the link between time and feelings through a series of paintings that are about 'the small world within a bigger world'. more+

Welldoing workshop with Chantal de Gaudio
One day workshop Sat 25th May 10am - 5pm
This working session gives you an opportunity to clarify where you are at in your life now and how to make exciting possibilities you have longed for attainable. Participants will leave with a stronger awareness of themselves, new tools that can be used in every day life and a defined bespoke action plan of what to do next. more+

Chelsea Fringe at Great Western Studios
Come to the Private View Tues 6th June 6pm - 9pm
Exhibition runs Tues 28th May - Tues 4th June
The Chelsea Fringe festival sees the gardens, community spaces, galleries, artist studios and local businesses of the area open their doors to the public and delight them with a huge variety of horticulture-based events.more+

Inside Design with Orsola de Castro
Come to the Private View Thurs 13th June 6pm - 9pm
Exhibition runs Mon 10th June - Wed 19th June
Orsola de Castro, creative director of From Somewhere, the revolutionary label she started in 1997, and the first to address the issue of pre-consumer waste and reproducibility in recycling for the fashion industry, is known as the Upcycling Queen. more+

Every Monday from 6.30pm
If you can walk, you can tango. Everyone is welcome. No sequences to remember, no need to come with a partner. Relaxed drop-in lessons by Argentine teachers Eleonora Simoes & Diego Calarco. Sessions start from 6.30pm every Monday in the gallery and project space. more+

Every first Tuesday of the month 6.30pm - 8.30pm
The Art Insider is a brand new forward-thinking company providing bespoke mentoring, group seminars and a comprehensive range of associated services for visual artists. GWS hold monthly seminars which take place on the first Tuesday of every month. more+

Craster studio 218
A fresh, elegant take on a classic product. Organically shaped, and turned from solid oak and walnut. Craster’s new range of cake stands are a complementary addition to their classic range of oak risers. more+
 
Estelle Thompson studio 211
Estelle Thompson is taking part in an exhibition at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki from 28th Mar - 14th April. 'Colour is the painting’s matter and form; in painting each line is coloured'. more+
 
Pip Hackett studio 54
Perfectly coordinated to match the Queen's outfit, Pip Hackett's hat recieves a royal welcome at Buckingham Palace. more+

Threefold Architects studio 203
Threefold Architects designed this long gabled artists' studio in Norfolk, UK, so that the owners could construct it themselves. See Dezeen's article. more+

Studio Hopwood studio 52
Recently, Studio Hopwood completed the refurbishment of Tempo restaurant and bar in Mayfair for Henry Tonga. It is a lovely example of the impeccable attention to detail that goes into every one of their projects. more+

The Honest Group studio 117
The Honest Group, better known as ‘honest’, offer a fully installed or dry hire service for stylish furniture, props and decorations  and can construct bespoke pieces on request to make your event stand out from the rest. more+

Additional visitor access, Monday to Friday 9.30am - 6pm, via the canal towpath - from Great Western Road in front of the Bus Garage and from the Harrow Road.
