Catch legendary Manchester DJ, music producer and keen fisher
Mark Rae on the decks at the Paradise this Friday 30 April (8pm–2am; free before 10pm then £3).
The NW6-dwelling half of
Rae & Christian recently ditched life in LA to move back to QP with his gorgeous new Californian wife, Angie. I can see you’re looking puzzled. Park Life bumped into him at Minkie’s and discovered he actually prefers the British weather. No, really…
‘Upon hearing of the rumours that the south-west corner of Queen’s Park was to be converted into a 6-metre-deep semi-tidal cod farm, it became apparent that a return to my favourite part of London was unavoidable. It’s difficult to find cheese and onion pasties or Dandelion and Burdoch in Los Angeles my home of recent, it’s also virtually impossible to drum up a decent conversation about the effects of rave music on cattle. Having spent four years out of the area it was rather a wonderful shock to find that a good degree of gentrification has occurred in my absence. There seems to be a marked reduction in chewing gum on the pavement and the local pubs have balsamic vinegar on tap. To celebrate the massive cultural upheaval we have all endured in the name of progress and of course to look forward to those long balmy nights staring at the lights of the miniature trawlers in the park, I will be providing a five-hour DJ set this Friday in the Paradise. I will be playing mostly good music.’
So, why not head down to the Paradise this Friday to say to Mark in person… ‘Let me get this straight: you traded sunny-every-day Los Angeles for Wrentham Avenue…’
