Celebrity chef Rowley Leigh to judge recipe competition at Portobello And Golborne Road markets’ English Apple Festival.
Portobello and Golborne Road markets announced that celebrity chef Rowley Leigh will be judging a recipe competition to be held as part of the markets’ second annual English Apple Festival. Not only will the winning recipe writer see their recipe featured as a special of the day on the menu at Le Café Anglais, Rowley Leigh’s prize-winning Bayswater-based restaurant, but they will also have the chance to spend a day behind the scenes at Le Café Anglais and to enjoy dinner for two with champagne.
The recipe competition is just one a number of events being held over the weekend of Friday and Saturday 22-23 October to celebrate National Apple Day, including:
- The opportunity to sample English apples including Bramley’s Seedling, Egremont Russet, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Worcester Pearmain, Kanzi, Jazz,Rubens and Cameo at stalls on Portobello and Golborne Roads (FREE).
- See and taste award winning English apples and pears from the National Fruit Show, which will be transported to the festival directly from the Kent Showground in Maidstone (FREE).
- Pick up free autumn recipe cards devised by local resident and Portobello cookery blogger Jo Harrison (vegetableoftheweek.com).
- Tuck in to exclusive Apple Pie and Nutty Apple loaf at the Hummingbird Bakery.
- Choose cookery books for the North Kensington Library’s collection at a Portobello market stall near Blenheim Crescent (FREE).
- Take advantage of exclusive festival offers and discounts at local independent businesses organised by Wedge Card (wedgecard.co.uk), including 15 per cent off at Ceramica Blue, 50p off hot spiced cloudy apple juice at the Fat Badger and a 20 minute massage for only £10 at Urban Bliss.
Those wishing to enter the recipe competition will be able to collect an official entry from a number of stalls in Portobello Road Market during the English Apple Festival.
